Will ClipMate Run On.... Linux? Mac? Palm? WinCE?

Sorry, we have no plans to port to Macintosh.  It's partly a technology issue (would require a complete re-write in a different programming language), and partly a market size issue.

This is interesting because the technology is available, to allow us to make a port.  However, being a company that is funded by sales, and not venture capital or pie-in-the-sky IPOs, we can't commit to Linux until we see evidence of people making money selling software in that market.  If you hear of any - let us know!  Meanwhile, we're taking a wait-and-see approach.

Palm? WinCE?, iPhone, Android?  There are currently no plans - but we're potentially interested in those markets.

I note that you say you do not plan to port Clipmate to Mac in part because of market size. Since Apple started using Intel chips, Apple's market share has grown a lot, mostly from ex-PC users like me. I don't know if the Intel chip and the Unix underpinnings of MacOSX make any difference in terms of your other reason (technology). Anyway, IClip is ok, but can't hold a candle to Clipmate. How about revisiting this question?

maybe you should remove the link on the homepage to iclip. it does not exist anymore apparently. and the growing install base of MAC might justify a new look on things?

kind regards,

Please add me to the list of folks that would love to have a Mac port of ClipMate. I am a 30-year user of DOS/Windows machines who recently switched to Mac.

I got ClipMate 4-5 years ago and it's now built into my fingers' muscle memory. I am lost without it and am literally installing VMWare Fusion and Windows on my Mac for this and exactly two other apps.

I realize there are technical issues and you have to do what makes financial sense for your company, but I would actually be willing to pay a premium for a native Mac version.

Thank you.

"evidence of people making money selling software in that market. " I think that -might- have been a true statement in the days when clipmate was younger. Even proprietary software has a place in Linux now. I would love to see CM on Linux and would be happy to pay for it.

Please add a Mac version. Or maybe amore simple solution would be coming up with a simple third party tool like DOSBox, but for window's. I'm using VMware for two programs, TaxAct and Clipmate, both of which do not have Mac versions. VMware works well, but I'm looking how to replace the two products, which I like. Hire a young gun for a month if you lost your mojo. :-)

I second, and third, requests for you to consider creating ClipMate for the Mac. Even a slimmed down, light version of the program to start would be a huge help to ClipMate junkies like us who feel lost w/o your software.

After using PC's since Gateway, I'm moving to an iMac, mostly so I won't have to use my wife's to run GarageBand. You might even recognize my name, as I think I've been using your software since its earliest iterations.I told my wife last night the only software I'm going to seriously miss is yours. It's a I-can't-imagine-living-without extension not just to word processing with Word and Final Draft, but for managing URL's, .jpgs, .mp3's, etc., etc., etc. I use it hundreds of times a day. I don't know what Apple's market share is now but, to use a favorite word of a certain TV reality star, it appears to be yuge. Perhaps it's time to take advantage of this emerging market. If you do, please, please, please notify me.

Would appreciate a knowledgeable reference to the best (but barely functional) clipboard mgr apps in other settings (iOS, Android, Mac). I too feel little/no allegiance to my OS, but stay in Windows largely because I feel like an amputee in any serious work begun in iOS . I would leap to support a ClipMate iOS!!

I have been using ClipMate for years and recently moved to the Mac. There is nothing out there as good as ClipMate -- PLEASE reconsider offering a Mac version. I'm using something called "Copied" and it is so inefficient compared to ClipMate. --Thank you!!

Comment of Dennis Singstockyour:
One can install on a Mac using CrossOver. It has some problems and maybe using different versions will clear up the problems. I just used CrossOver v21 and Clipmate 7.5 and it installed and runs. I can enter a registration key and do various things. However, the addresses or directories are messed up. For example, the C: drive is: /users/yourusername/library/application support/crossover/bottles/clipmate/drive_c. When one backs up to C:userscrossovermy documents, the backup actually goes to usersyourusernamedocuments. So the c: drive is not the same place in those two instances. Therefore I don't believe a restore will work unless you mess with the location of the files. In certain instances it cannot write to a file because it cannot find the directory. I just installed it and have not used it so I do not know how many acceptable and unacceptable things are present.
